Performance Prediction & wing/ fuselage design
Wang Feng

Wang Feng (MSc Aircraft Vehicle Design, U Cranfield) is a design engineer for Aerotrope. His passion has always been aviation, but in this sense any object that moves through air in a controllable way interests him. He joined the Sailrocket team in 2009 at the point of devising and selecting a new concept, which would become VSR2. For Aerotrope he co-designed the new fuselage and wing and wrote the performance prediction programme that ensures the new boat avoids stability problems (such as SR1’s famous backflip) while pushing for maximum speed. Wang Feng’s calculations confirmed the team’s suspicions that they should move the aerodynamic centre of VSR2 behind the centre of gravity, which was not the case in SR1. During a speed record campaign Wang Feng is busy evaluating the data so the VSR2 team can learn and improve the boat each step of the way.
